Post #4 - 1st Marking Period Reflection

I enjoyed art far more than I thought I would this first marking period. Not only did I enjoy it more, I think I also learned way more than I ever thought and its only marking period one. I am so pleased that I learned all these new art techniques. I hope to use these techniques through my year in art. I think I also grew as an artist in my capability to do more difficult things. I am really looking forward to the rest of the year and I hope to learn even more.

Post #3 - Next President Collage

I have to admit, the "Next President" collage was very difficult for me. I had a hard time deciding a presidential topic and an even harder time getting my topic to come across in my collage. I ended up with the topic "Freedom of Speech". I tried to show my topic in many different ways in my collage. The first thing I did was create a whole background of newspaper print. To do this, I transferred magazine articles with gloss  over the whole background of the paper. Next, I put tissue paper "jail bars" up to create the illusion of "words behind bars". I also put many words such as "Who?" and "Best Novel" in bolder ink to show the idea of Freedom of Speech. After this I put many layers of tissue paper and paint to express the idea of the creativity of the words all over my collage.

I'm still not exactly sure how I feel about my finished collage. I think I am happy with the outcome. Although I see many other collages I like a lot, I impressed myself with what I came up with in the end.

Final Drawing
Working on Shoe Drawing

When I first began my drawing of the shoes, I had a difficult time deciding how to go about it. I didn't understand the concept of shading and angles. It took me a couple of class periods to get an idea of what I wanted to draw. When I finally got the hang of it, I had a really great experience drawing the shoes and making the drawing my own. I especially enjoyed drawing the All Star Converse. Shading still was my greatest obstacle in the drawing. I had a difficult time with it the whole way through, over all though, I was very happy with my final product.
